Jenny and the Celebrant

Hello and welcome
New Feature to Help You Plan Your Wedding
I'm adding a new feature to my blog called Today's Q and A. I'll collect the entries together in a static page called 'Q and A' so that they're all easily accessible (see widget on the right). Today's Q and A appears further down this post.
Last post I put in a photo of Jenny and Chris, at our second meeting together a few days before their wedding. They were married on Easter Saturday at Gold Creek Chapel and everything went wonderfully. The guests especially enjoyed the funny bits that Chris wrote into the ceremony, and I had the fun of reading them!

Jenny and the Celebrant
Jenny told me that her wedding was not the first time I had been celebrant for her family. She surprised me with the news that many years ago, when I was still a naming celebrant, I had been honoured by officially bestowing her name upon her on her Naming Day. Jenny's mother Dianne kindly sent me this photo, along with a photo taken during the signing that's in the slideshow on the right of this post. Dianne is standing beside her lovely daughter in the photo below.
And then I got to be there for Jenny when she changed her name to share her family name with Chris. Chris and Jenny chose to be presented as Mr and Mrs at the end of their ceremony and it was my privilege to present them.
Today's Q and A

Q:     We want to call each other by our nicknames when we get married? Is this possible?

A:   Yes, but there are conditions.
The Australian Marriage Act requires that your full names must be announced in your wedding ceremony. The Act gives examples with first name and surname, so middle names are optional (though they must appear on your 3 certificates). If you want to use short simple names during your vows, make sure that your full names are mentioned somewhere earlier in your ceremony.

If you’d like to email me about your wedding plans, please click here, or phone me any day between 9am and 9pm on 02 6161 0718. I would be delighted to be your celebrant. I also welcome comments about this blog and any questions you may have about getting married in Australia.

     Till next time
     Sincerely
     Michele
